forgotten tracks, fields, and a graphite mine beneath

Fields nearby the Bachwanderweg round Hauzenberg, Germany

it is not without a certain mystery that one would wander the “Bachwanderweg” from Hauzenberg; old tracks emerge from and get lost into the woods, bridges’ railings decay under the sun, something feels wrong in this setting.Later you discover that beneath this ground there is a network of hundreds of galleries of graphite mines. Graphite, or what started as oddly black patches of earth on the fields, is deeply entangled in the history of the region. Surprisingly the mines are still operative today, and a guided tour brings at last light to all this mystery.
